This song starts with the words "Hello darkness my old friend" this is just the start of this song and if you listen closely to the words there is more phrases with this feeling within this music. The feeling I'm taking about is sadness but if you listen to this song it doesn't sound sad at all. In fact it starts quite and inviting. Maybe a little creepy but as you go within the song you are able to hear the tone start to get more passionate as you go through the song. By the time it gets to chorus the words seem to echo with power and seems to inspire the audience. This song came out and became a huge hit. Overall, sound of silence refers young people. This song is about youthful alienation and about youthful alienation and about not being able to connect with others. This song was written in the 1960's about the extent to which people hide their true views about the Vietnam War. He creates a poetic voice in which is through a vison that we are made aware of the great disappointment that he feels at the peoples inability to say what is on their minds.

  1. I thought it was super cool how you captured the history of this song, and could relate it back to the vietnam war. During that time, I'm sure that mental illness was super big, and that sadness was everywhere. Its cool that this song came out to basically dedicate for those who struggle. Listening to sad songs generally don't make us happy, but give us a voice where we feel like someone understands. Great Blog!

  2. It was interesting to me to learn about how this song wasn’t actually the exact song that was recorded and that it was changed. I just think how different it would be if this exact version of this song hadn’t been made and become so popular. Also I loved how you related this to the history aspect and the Vietnam War.
